Niagara COVID-19 Vaccinations
With vaccination supplies increasing, Niagara Region Public Health has plans ready to deliver vaccine on a large scale to protect the Niagara community as soon as vaccine has arrived.
Niagara is following the Province of Ontario's three-phase vaccination distribution plan.
At this time, in Phase I, there is no sign-up or waiting list. The COVID-19 vaccine will be distributed to populations of highest priority based on vaccine supply.
As the plan transitions into Phase II, Niagara Region Public Health will be using a variety of communications channels to reach people who are eligible to be vaccinated - and once the Province of Ontario's booking system is open to the public, residents will be able to book their appointments online or by phone. The booking system is expected to open March 15.
After vaccinating those 80 years of age and older, Niagara Region Public Health will follow the provincial prioritization criteria to move through progressively younger age brackets until all persons 60 years of age or older have had the opportunity to get vaccinated. At that point, essential workers throughout the region as well as other high-risk residents (e.g. those with chronic medical conditions) will be able to get vaccinated. The Ontario Government hopes to open vaccinations up to all Ontario residents by the end of summer, and Niagara intends to be in lockstep with that timeline. All vaccination plans are, of course, subject to vaccine supply.
The most current information about the roll-out of the vaccine in Niagara is available on Niagara Region's COVID-19 Vaccination webpage.
