If the Township has never licensed your organization, you must first complete an eligibility review. This will take five to seven business days. Once completed and the Township is satisfied that your organization meets all eligibility requirements, you will be notified and may begin to apply for lottery licenses.
Municipal councils have the authority to issue licences for most lottery events conducted in their communities, including:
- Bingo events with prize boards of up to $5,500
- Raffles with prizes of up to $50,000
- Break open ticket events within the municipality
- Bazaar gaming events
- Media bingo
To be eligible to receive a lottery licence, an organization must first have charitable objects and purposes that fall within one of the four classifications of charitability:
- the relief of poverty
- the advancement of education
- the advancement of religion
- other charitable purposes beneficial to the community
Municipalities that issue licences must ensure that applicants are eligible for lottery licences and remain satisfied that licensees continue to meet the requirements of the Criminal Code (Canada), the Order-in-Council and all applicable terms and conditions of their licences. Please refer to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).
