You can challenge your penalty notice if you believe we have made an error. The registered owner of the property or of the vehicle that is in receipt of the penalty notice may request a review by the Screening Officer. Failure to complete the form in its entirety will result in the Administrative Penalty being affirmed.
There is no fee to have your penalty notice reviewed.
Anyone can make payment on your behalf if they have your penalty notice and license plate number.
The registered owner of the vehicle or the person named in the penalty notice can provide written authorization for a representative to attend a screening review on their behalf.
You may request a written decision, which does not require your attendance. Please note that screening reviews may also be conducted remotely (telephone or electronic meeting).
Failure to pay a penalty notice will result in additional administrative fees from the Township.
Unpaid penalties will cause the Ontario Registrar of Motor Vehicles to deny the renewal of existing, or the issuance of new vehicle license plates.
The decision to grant an extension is at the discretion of the Screening Officer and considered on an individual basis.
If the matter is still in dispute following a review by the Screening Officer, you may request a review by a Hearing Officer, within fifteen days of receipt of the Screening Officer's decision. It is Important to note that you may only challenge the Screening Officer's decision and only the information and evidence submitted at the screening will be considered at a hearing review. This Hearing review process can only be initiated by the receiver of a penalty notice.
Due to the limited available hearing request time slots and the requirement to address Hearings in a timely fashion, Hearing requests are to be heard at the next available date after submission of the Request for Hearing Form. If a Scheduled Hearing is cancelled or withdrawn, it is possible your hearing date may be moved to the next available date.
**Please note that the Request for Hearing Form is used for both Parking and Non-parking matters.
The penalty notice amount will be affirmed. For parking penalties, the registered owner of the vehicle or the person named in the penalty notice will be assessed a failure to appear fee of $50 for a missed screening and $100 for a missed hearing. For non-parking penalties, the person named in the penalty notice will be assessed a failure to appear fee of $100 for a missed screening and $250 for a missed hearing.
