Update: The Township of Wainfleet’s Significant Weather Event has now ended.

Town Hall is open for walk-in service; however, some staff are working remotely, and residents may experience a delay in service in certain departments.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation throughout the storm. Residents are reminded to continue exercising caution as crews address remaining snow and icy conditions on Township roads.

Pursuant to the Ontario Minimum Maintenance Standards (O. Reg. 239/02), the Corporation of the Township of Wainfleet hereby declares a Significant Weather Event, effective January 25, 2026, due to forecasted and occurring severe winter weather conditions.

Environment Canada and regional forecasts are calling for a significant winter storm to impact Wainfleet today and into tonight. Residents should prepare for heavy snow, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions.

Forecast Highlights
• Snow accumulations of 15–25 cm are possible.
• Winds gusting up to approximately 40 km/h will increase blowing and drifting snow, reducing visibility.
• Temperatures will remain well below freezing, with wind chills making it feel much colder.

Timing
Today: Snow develops early, becoming heavy and blowing at times.
Tonight: Continued snow with strong winds and ongoing accumulations.
Monday & Beyond: Lingering flurries and cold conditions into the week.

Township crews will continue to monitor conditions and deploy resources as practicable.

Municipal Operations
Plows will be operating throughout the storm, conducting salting and sanding operations to help keep roads as safe as possible. Residents are asked to be patient, avoid on-street parking where possible, and give snowplows plenty of space while they work.

Potential Impacts
• Travel likely very difficult with slippery roads, reduced visibility, and drifting snow.
• School and transit disruptions possible – please monitor local authority updates.
• Cold temperatures and wind chill increase the risk of frostbite and hypothermia – dress warmly.
• Power outages are possible during severe wind and snow conditions.

Safety Tips
• Avoid unnecessary travel if possible.
• Keep emergency supplies in vehicles (blankets, food, water, flashlight).
• Check WeatherCAN or Environment Canada for live alerts and updates.

This declaration will remain in effect until the Township determines conditions have improved and formally declares the event ended. Please stay tuned for updates as conditions evolve. We will also provide updates regarding Town Hall walk-in service for Monday.

Stay safe, Wainfleet.
