Notice to Residents - Noxious Weeds

The Township of Wainfleet hereby gives notice, pursuant to the Province of Ontario’s Weed Control Act, R.S.O. 1990, c.W.5, to persons in possession of property not exceeding ten (10) acres in size that unless noxious weeds and weed seeds thereon are destroyed by June 1 and throughout the season, that the municipality may otherwise enter the property and have the weeds or weed seeds destroyed and charging all the costs thereof against the land as set out in the Weed Control Act.

The intent of the Weed Control Act is to reduce:

1. The infestation of noxious weeds that negatively impact on agriculture and horticulture lands. 
2. Plant diseases by eliminating plant disease hosts such as common barberry and European buckthorn. 
3. Health hazards to livestock and agricultural workers caused by poisonous plants.
